History
The Lao American Women Association (LAWA) of Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area was incorporated in the State of Virginia
as a non-profit organization in early 1995.
LAWA is the first women's organization in the nation's capital established by Lao-born American women.
In 2004 LAWA is a recipient of a Values, Empowerment, Resources, and Betterment (VERB) Grant. Half of this fund is allocated to improve
and strengthen LAWA as an organization.
The other half of the fund is for the development and strengthening of the Laotian Community in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area.
LAWA is a member of the Laotian American National Alliance (LANA), a national advocacy organization representing all Laotian Americans
at the national level.
