Classika
Theater, April 24, 2005
Packed like
sardines, two vans dropped off LAWA drama students and their parents
in front of Classika Theater in Shirlington, Virginia to see "The
Magical Balloon" on April 24th.
Once the students went inside the theater and set themselves comfortably
on their seats, the lights went off and it was pitched black and
so "The Magical Balloon" began.
The students laughed, smiled and were in awe by the pantomime
performance of Irina Tsikurishvili and I rakli
Kavsadze, two of the renowned Georgian choreographers and actors.
After the show, Irina asked the audience to join in singing a
“Happy Birthday” song to one of the girls whose parents
were holding a birthday party afterwards for her. LAWA students
harmoniously joined in singing. Then Irina asked the audience
to come up on stage for a brief lesson in the art of pantomime.
Our own Nina, Angie, Kenny and Austin mimicked Irina's every move:
birds flying, writing, bouncing, feeling and so on. The students
giggled and laughed throughout the lesson.
Here's what some of them had to say about the show:
Julius, "It looks so real!"
All the kids, "He's sweating a lot!"
Nina, "I like it!"
The End!
